Sited on the edge of campus at The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, the School of Business acts as a gateway to the City of Charleston and serves as an ambassador to its business community. In contrast to the historic fortress-like buildings at the College, the new facility—the first to be built on the campus in this century—is distinctly transparent and conveys a welcoming gesture to the City.
The design utilizes forms, shapes, and materials that recall the College’s iconic heritage while also incorporating a light and welcoming arch-motif entry and perforated metal solar screens to convey a sense of openness that presents the School of Business as a new front door for the campus. The building is designed for high performance and resource efficiency and received two Green Globes from the Green Building Initiative.
