August 29, 2022, Columbus, OH: Jane E. Heminger Hall, a 35,000 square foot addition at Ohio State University’s College of Nursing, opened to the public on Monday. Designed by ikon.5 architects, in partnership with Architect of Record, M+A Architects, the $31.7 million project supports The Ohio State University College of Nursing’s vision “to be the world’s leader in thinking and achieving the impossible in order to transform health and improve lives.”

Located at a gateway corner to the University’s health science campus, the expansion includes flexible classrooms, informal learning spaces, a health sciences maker space, a demonstration kitchen for teaching about healthy lifestyles, a holistic meditation and yoga studio, and open light filled faculty and research offices.

“Our design was inspired by current nursing pedagogy which postulates that positive environmental attributes can improve healing and health. The concept has resulted in a landscaped, light-filled winter garden of wellness that links existing Newton Hall to the addition,” says Joseph G. Tattoni, FAIA, Design Principal at ikon.5 architects.
