Like a coral stone outcropping rising from the shoreline, it establishes an iconic portal entry.

Like a coral stone outcropping rising from the Daytona Beach shoreline, the new L. Gale Lemerand Student Center establishes an iconic gateway to the Daytona State College campus along International Speedway Boulevard. The organically curved coral stone and bronze wall faces the road and embraces the visitor like two outstretched arms forming a landscaped welcome lawn at the campus entry. A soaring bronze portal, emerging from the center of this gently curving wall, frames the entrance to the student center and gives passage to the main quadrangle and campus beyond.
Custom bronze solar screens are veiled over large, glazed areas of the south and west façades to limit heat gain and glare while permitting views to the City.

Internally, a three-story commons overlooks the quadrangle and serves as the campus living room. An amphitheater on the second and third floors cantilevers into the commons and looks out onto the campus quadrangle.
