ikon.5 architects wins two American Architecture Awards
The Chicago Athenaeum Museum has selected two buildings designed by ikon.5 to receive a 2015 American Architecture Award. The projects honored are the new Visitor Center at the Monmouth Battlefield State Park in Manalapan, New Jersey and the U.S. Headquarters facility for Schindler Elevator Corporation in Morristown, New Jersey.

Now in its 21st year, the American Architecture Awards is among the most prestigious awards programs for design excellence in the United States honoring the best and latest contributions to innovative contemporary American architecture. ikon.5’s two projects are among 60 projects honored this year, joining a host of exemplary new buildings from across the globe designed by leading U.S. architects, including the Broad Museum in Los Angeles, California, the National September 11 Memorial Museum in New York, and the Guggenheim Helsinki Museum in Finland.

It has the power to delight, inspire and comfort us at all stages of our lives; to improve humanity’s potential, to provide our cities with decent homes and affordable alternatives, and to create a sensitive and uplifting urban and rural environment that immeasurably improves the lives and well-being of all those who encounter them,” states Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, President, The Chicago Athenaeum.
“America’s most prominent architecture firms have all made the grade and show why the United States architectural talent and ambition is famed around the world.” The American Architecture Awards are awarded to U.S. architects who have made the biggest contribution to the evolution of American architecture in a given year,” added Narkiewicz-Laine. Not only are these the best new buildings in the country today, they are game-changers that other architects, clients, and local authorities should aspire to. This year’s jury of Phoenix architects had an unenviable task,” Narkiewicz-Laine continues.
The elite group of buildings and urban planning projects will be premiered at the 3rd Chicago Architecture Biennial this November. After Chicago, the exhibition will travel to Izmir, Turkey to the Chamber of Turkish Architects-Izmir Branch and The European Centre’s Contemporary Space in Athens, Greece in 2016.
